NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames and the Boston Bruins

Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney says it's unlikely that defenseman Torey Krug is traded.
On the Calgary Flames …

Tim Campbell of NHL.com: Flames GM Brad Treliving said they’d like to back into the first-round, but it takes a good piece to do so.

“The cost of getting into Round 1 is steep right now. It would take a real good young player to do that, and does that put you further ahead? As it sits, it doesn’t necessarily look like it will happen, but we’ll see.”

On the Boston Bruins …

Amalie Benjamin of NHL.com: Bruins GM Don Sweeny on their overall offseason plans.

“We’ve had some talks with pending guys, we’re working on our guys, we’re going to explore some market stuff. I don’t think we’re necessarily going too crazy. I mean we’ve had opportunities, there’s been some trade chatter on some players. We’ve been linked to having conversations with Kovalchuk’s group. I think all those things are areas that we’re looking at.”

Sweeney on if they hope they can get back into the first-round of the draft.

“It’s always a hope. As you get closer, it gets harder and harder because people get attached to the people they may be able to draft, so it does become harder. You never know.”

Sweeney on the possibility of trading defenseman Torey Krug, whose name has come up in the rumor mill as a possible trade chip for them.

“Look, you never know. I’m not actively shopping Torey. People call on a lot of different guys that we have. I have private conversations with each and every general manager, but we value what Torey brings to the table. It’s very difficult to replace a 60-point guy. He’s grown with our organization. He’s grown into a leadership role on and off the ice. He’s a big part of our success. I’d say it’s unlikely.”
