Flames may not have much more to say about their two RFAs until they’re signed

Pat Steinberg: Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving said they want to focus who is at camp rather than who is not – Matthew Tkachuk and Andrew Mangiapane.

He said he’s not waiting for any other domino to fall with regards to getting them re-signed.

Eric Francis: After talking to people who are in the organization that he is close with, Andrew Mangiapane came down $200,000.

He is now asking for $850,000 on a one-way deal, and a little more on a two-way deal.

The Flames qualified him at $715,000.

Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun: The Flames won’t be saying much more on their two RFAs until they are signed. Treliving yesterday on Tkachuk and Mangiapane.

“We want them here, look forward to having them here as soon as possible,” Treliving said. “We think a lot of both players. But as we move forward after today, especially for our players and for our coaches, we want the focus to be on who is here right now and not have them be distracted by questions. So I’ll address that today, and after today, we’ll move forward. And I will hopefully be giving good news the next time we speak about it and have both of those situations concluded.”

The Flames are only focusing on their own RFAs and not the other unsigned RFAs.

Mangiapane has only played in 54 NHL games.

“We feel we’re being very fair. He probably feels he’s being very fair,” Treliving said of Mangiapane. “You can’t let it surprise you or get emotional about it. It’s business, right? That’s all it is.

“Everybody realizes it — once camp starts, you hate missing days. It’s days you don’t get back, in terms of the preparation, and you hear it all the time. But all we can worry about is getting a deal done. There’s going to be a whole bunch of noise, and I know it’s great discussion … But as you know, I don’t talk about those things. We just try to stay nestled into getting the work done, and that’s what we’ll do with both of these.

“And hopefully soon.”
