Ansar Khan of MLive: (mailbag) Reader suggests a Cam Fowler for Tomas Tatar or Gustav Nyquist. Khan thinks that would be a good match for both sides. Khan adds that the Wings would have to add more to the deal, and that the Wings have had issues scoring as well.
If either Jacob Trouba or Tyler Myers was made available, would imagine that the Red Wings would be interested.
The Red Wings have had interest in Alex Edler in the past – back at the 2013 draft. Although the Wings could make Tatar or Nyquist available in a trade, Khan wouldn’t move either for the 30-year old Edler.
The Wings could use a player like David Backes and Troy Brouwer. Thinking that Backes will re-sign.
On Expansion, Senators, Kings, Wild and Radulov …
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: In the next week or two, it is expected that the NHL Executive Committe will meet on expansion. If they approve, they will then look at having a Board of Governors meeting.
Friedman wonders if the Senators would look at Devils assistant coach Geoff Ward or ask the Maple Leafs permission to speak with Sheldon Keefe.
One NHL governor: “If Melnyk lost (the arena bid), would Quebec City call and say, ‘What figure would you like on that cheque, sir?”
If Clarke MacArthur’s able to play next year, the Senators can focus on a center and adding a depth defenseman. If he’s not able to play, they’ll need to find another top-six forward.
Kings coach Darryl Sutter is about have his contract expire. If they don’t bring him back as head coach, would assume that assistant coach John Stevens is their guy.
Friedman wonders if the Wild would be interested in Sutter if he doesn’t return with the Kings.
Early thought was that Avalanche would be the frontrunners for Alexander Radulov, but several sources have said that may not be the case. The Panthers are interested and the Wings have shown some interest. Not sure who else might be interested. A decision could be made next week.
