On some trades that didn’t happen …
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Some members of the Jets scouting staff were high on Matthew Tkachuk.
Looking like Loui Eriksson will hit the open market with term being the issue with the Bruins. Eriksson wanting six years and the Bruins offering four.
Not a surprised P.K. Subban didn’t get traded. Several teams called the Canadiens. Word on Friday was that the GM Marc Bergevin wanted a “massive amount” to make a deal with the Oilers, starting with the No. 4 pick and increasing significantly.
The Oilers have shown interest in Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins would fit in nicely in Minnesota.
Reported on Friday that teams were calling the Ducks about Cam Fowler, and it sounds like he’ll be moved at some point. The Sabres made a play, same with the Bruins and the Canadiens. The Ducks were asking for a first round pick and a prospect. The Ducks need to clear some cap space so they can go get a rugged winger.
There is a huge market for Kevin Shattenkirk, who could be looking for a seven-year extension at around $7 million.
The Flames held serious talks with the Lightning and Penguins about Ben Bishop and Marc-Andre Fleury before trading for Brian Elliott. The Flames had permission to speak with Bishop.
On Kevin Shattenkirk …
Craig Custance: Talked with Shattenkirk’s agent Jordan Neumann on what his thoughts are on how the weekend played out.
“Based on the conversations we had leading into this weekend with St. Louis, we did expect Kevin to have been traded this weekend. We are a bit surprised to be leaving here without having a deal done.”
On the Nashville Predators …
Adam Vingan of the Tennessean: Predators backup goalie Carter Hutton will hit the open market, with both GM David Poile and agent Jordan Neumann confirming on Friday.
The Flames may still be looking to add another goalie, and the Blues may be looking for a backup after trading Brian Elliott to Calgary. The Ducks may be looking for a backup to John Gibson after trading Frederik Andersen to Toronto.
