Both Brock Boeser and Alex Edler entering the final year of their contracts with the Canucks

Patrick Johnson of The Vancouver Province: Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser is entering the final year of his entry-level contract, and he won’t have a new deal in place anytime soon.

There were some talks this offseason, but the sides will revisit talks after the season.

Defenseman Alex Edler is in the last year of his contract and he holds a no-trade clause.

“We’ve talked about it internally, I’ve talked to his agent,” Benning said. “We’ve decided to wait and get into the season.”

Edler wouldn’t say much with regards to his contract situation and is focusing on training camp and their preseason.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future but when that comes up I’ll deal with it then.”

Sharks don’t have any reservations about offering Erik Karlsson an eight-year deal

Curtis Pashelka of The Mercury News: (Interview with San Jose Sharks GM Doug Wilson after he acquired Erik Karlsson from the Ottawa Senators).

When asked, Wilson wouldn’t say which young players – like Timo Meier – may have come up in trade talk. There were some players who were non-starters.

Wilson wouldn’t say much regarding any potential contract negotiations. When asked if there is some idea of what it might take on a long-term deal.

“We wouldn’t have done this deal if we weren’t very comfortable of that opportunity, and that’s why I was able to have discussions with their agents and with Erik. Look at the history. That’s all I can say. Jumbo, Burns, Kane, Jonesy. When you have the type of ownership we have, the type of team and the type of players, (knowing) what players are looking for, I think we fill all those boxes.

I’ve had conversations, in confidence with people, and came to the comfort zone of where we’re at today.”

Wilson when asked if there would be any reservations about an eight-year offer to Karlsson.

“No, there wouldn’t be. We’ve done our research. Honestly, I really believe he’s just coming into his prime.”
