NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils could take a run a pending free agent Kevin Shattenkirk if he hits the open market
On the Vancouver Canucks …

TSN Radio Vancouver: Canucks GM Jim Benning on their defense: “That’s a position we have depth at. We’ll look at trade market and if we can switch a D for a good young forward, we may look”

TSN Radio Vancouver: Benning on Jacob Markstrom and their goaltending: “If things don’t work out with Ryan (Miller), and he’s our #1 goalie, I have confidence in him”

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Ryan Fancey of The Leafs Nation: Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reported that the Maple Leafs are looking at KHL free agents and added “they’re in on everyone.” They could be the frontrunners for forwards Yevgeni Dadonov (30-years old) and Vadim Shipachev (28-years old).

On the New Jersey Devils…

Andrew Gross of The Record: Defenseman John Moore has a year left on his contract, but he wants to show management that he can be a part of their long-term rebuilding plan.  The Devils will have to make a decision if they want to protect him for the expansion draft or not.

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 590 talking about Taylor Hall and the New Jersey Devils. Talk lead to one area the Devils need the most help in – the blueline and a puck moving defenseman.

“I think the one thing – if you ask everybody about Jersey, the biggest issue there is they just don’t have a defense that can move the puck. And you can’t win in this league now if your defense can’t do that.”

“I don’t know if Kevin Shattenkirk is going to go there – I still think he wants to be a Ranger. But I could see them throwing a big number at him. They’ve got a lot of cap room. They’ve got a spot for him on their blueline. He’s exactly what they need. It would not surprise me in the least if New Jersey is a team that goes out there and just throws bags of money at him and says, ‘Turn us down.’”
