Has Thatcher Demko’s injury timeline been pushed back?
Jason Gregor: Kevin Woodley on Vancouver Canucks injured goaltender Thatcher Demko: “He said no timeline. There have been reports he won’t be ready to start training camp. I can’t confirm it, but with the Driedger signing, it makes you wonder if his timeline (to return) has been pushed back.”
If Drake Batherson isn’t extended by the start of the season, it may signal him going to free agency
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: Drake Batherson and the Ottawa Senators have until September 15th to work out an eight-year deal, before seven years becomes the max. Both sides have said they want to keep the relationship going past the final year of his contract. There remains a gap between the sides.

Sources say that Batherson is looking for eight-years. On the open market, he could be looking at between $10 and $11 million. He’d only be able to get six-years if he went to July 1st. If a deal isn’t signed before their season opener on October 3rd, then it will be expected that he goes to free agency.
Elliotte Friedman reported that “there is a path to a deal” but both sides will need to compromise. Money and bonus structure are two issues. The Senators have a history of not liking signing bonuses.
The Montreal Canadiens have been trying to trade Sam Montembeault, but will the Edmonton Oilers have some interest now
Karine Hains of The Hockey News: Louis Jean on 98.5 radio in Montreal said that at the end of last season, he thought Sam Montembeault‘s days with the Canadiens were over. Jean believes that GM Kent Hughes tried over the summer to move him, but couldn’t find a team willing to give back what he wanted. Hughes did receive a trade offer for Montembeault but it didn’t make sense as he’s not interested in losing trades and selling low.

Would the Edmonton Oilers be interested in Montembeault after Frederik Andersen‘s offseason injury? It’s not known how long he’ll be out for. They do still have Tristan Jarry and Devon Levi. The Oilers have just under $2 million in salary cap space, so they’d need to move money to fit Montembeault’s salary of $3.15 million.
