NHL Rumors: Canucks, Golden Knights, Coyotes, Doan and Hockey Canada

James Neal could be one player the Vegas Golden Knights look to trade at the trade deadline
On the Vancouver Canucks …

Rick Dhaliwal: The Vancouver Canucks talked to unrestricted free agent Brandon Pirri‘s camp two weeks ago and haven’t spoken since (as of a couple days ago).

On the Vegas Golden Knights …

Luke Fox of Sportsnet: Golden Knights GM George McPhee will likely be offering up David Perron and James Neal at the trade deadline. McPhee will likely be looking for second round picks but may have to settle for third round picks.

Golden Knights Jonathan Marchessault will be a UFA after next season, but he has a good relationship with head coach Gerald Gallant and will be re-signed.

The Golden Knights still have 11 defensemen on their roster, with nine of them being left handed. McPhee would like to move Luca Sbisa.

On the Arizona Coyotes …

Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports: Coyotes GM John Chayka on contract talks with restricted free agent Anthony Duclair.

“We’re still trying to determine the best value for the player and the team moving forward,” Chayka said. “He’s obviously a guy that’s had a unique two years. He had a great year his first year (20 goals) and obviously struggled last year (five goals). It makes it a bit more difficult, but we’re working away with Kent . Kent’s been great through the process, trying to find something that works for both sides.”

On the Shane Doan …

Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports: Shane Doan’s agent Terry Bross said there has been no change Doan’s status. Bross wouldn’t name teams, but he’s spoken with four or five teams about a deal for Doan for next season. Doan may not decide whether to play or not until right before training camp.

On Team Canada …

TSN: Hockey Canada GM Sean Burke for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang  confirmed that he’s reached out to unsigned free agents Shane Doan, Jarome Iginla and Mike Fisher.

Hockey Canada’s VP of hockey operations Scott Salmond:

“As Hockey Canada we have tremendous respect for all of those players,” said Salmond. “There’s no question that their leadership and their experience could be invaluable to our team.”
