Claude Giroux may be waiting for the Leo Carlsson offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers to play out
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: There were reports on Friday that UFA forward Claude Giroux would be heading back to the Philadelphia Flyers. He spent 15 seasons there and played in over 1,000 games with them. Sources said he hadn’t made up his mind yet, but it was a possibility.
The Toronto Maple Leafs spoke to him, the Edmonton Oilers made a pitch. Sportsnet’s Mark Spector said the Oilers are not involved anymore. The Ottawa Senators remain in the mix.
The sense around the league is that he’ll end up in Philly, but they may be waiting for the Leo Carlsson offer sheet to play out. The Flyers had $30 million in cap space, but they also need to re-sign RFAs Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale.
The Senators may have a similar offer on the table to the one he played with last year; one year at a $2 million salary and up to $2.75 million in incentives for games played and playoff success. He ended up with $1 million in bonuses.
