NHL Rumors: Colorado Avalanche, Buffalo Sabres, and the New York Islanders

Term may be a sticking point for the New York Islanders and Anders Lee.
Avs and Bowers talking

Ryan Clark: Source is saying that the Colorado Avalanche have held “good discussions” with Shane Bowers of Boston University. A contract is still a work in progress.

Sabres coaching and management

Mike Harrington: “It’s seemed like Housley has been dead man walking for the last 3 weeks anyway. But if you lose to Jersey and Ottawa on back-to-back nights, that should eliminate any doubt. He’s gotta take the fall and GMJB goes on the clock.” **tweet was from before they lost to Ottawa on the tail end of the back-to-back**

Sal Capaccio: Buffalo Sabres owner Kim Pegula on if she believes they need to bring another ‘layer of knowledge’ to go with GM Jason Botterill: “I don’t know that yet. You know we’re still in the season. I know we’re close to the end but usually that stuff we usually look at after the season when we sit down and have our usual annual post-season review, so all that stuff will be discussed and talked about with Jason and with Phil and the players like the normal course of business, so we’ll look into that”

Wahlstrom leaving college

Sara Civ: Have been hearing that New York Islanders prospect Oliver Wahlstrom is leaving Boston College. Walstrom could be looking at the AHL or Europe.

TSN: Bob McKenzie on TSN Insider Trading on Wahlstrom.

“… has informed Boston College that he is not going back to school so he’s obviously going to try and negotiate a deal here with the New York Islanders in the immediate future. Plan B if he didn’t get that deal done, he’s got some options on the table in Europe. So, keep an eye on Oliver Wahlstrom to see where he ends up.”

Nate Wells: The college path for Wahlstrom.

Term holding up a Lee – Islanders extension?

TSN: Pierre LeBrun said that contract extension talks between the New York Islanders and pending UFA forward Anders Lee have stalled.

“It is interesting. Anders Lee has not yet signed a contract extension. And believe me, he wants to sign one,” LeBrun said Tuesday on Insider Trading. “Lou Lamoriello, GM of the Islanders, says it remains a top priority to get Anders Lee signed. My understanding is there has been dialogue, on-again, off-again really since the start of the season.”

LeBrun believes the term is the issue, with Lee looking for a seven- or eight-year deal and Islanders looking for something less than that.
