On the Dallas Stars …
Mark Stepneski of Stars Inside Edge: Stars GM Jim Nill said that with expansion and the salary cap, they had an opportunity to make a move on the goalie market.
Nill said there hasn’t been any contract talks with Bishop’s camp, but expects them to start soon. Nill added that he’s confident that they can get a deal done.
Nill has some time to figure out what to do with Kari Lehtonen and Antti Niemi, both who have one year left on their deals.
“We’ll wait and see,” Nill said. “We’ve got coming up, and we’ve got to figure all that out, and we’re just going to see where that goes.”
Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: The Stars should have about $18 million in salary cap space for trades and UFAs this offseason. Five forwards the Stars could look at this summer. They could be expensive and the Stars may look at spending money on their blueline and in net (post written before the Bishop trade).
Alexander Radulov – will likely be looking for more than the $5.75 million he made this season. Might also help transitioning Valeri Nichushkin back in the NHL.
T.J. Oshie – right winger who would fit nice with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. Oshie could also help out in shootouts. 30-year old will be looking for a raise from his $4.175 million.
Justin Williams – could be a Patrick Sharp replacement. 35-year is slowing down a bit and would likely take a short-termed deal. Made $3.25 million this past season.
Patrick Eaves – likely not coming back, but would be a good fit on a either Seguin or Jason Spezza‘s line. He might have out priced himself after a 32 goal season. Has a good relationship with GM Jim Nill, so might be an option if they could get him on a shorter-termed deal.
Jarome Iginla – The 40-year is a sentimental pick. Right winger could be a fit on the top line if they can’t find another winger. Could boost their power play and would bring veteran leadership.
