On the Detroit Red Wings …
Peter Wallner of MLive: Drew Miller is playing with Grand Rapids in the AHL and is hoping the Red Wings are able to trade him before the March 1st trade deadline.
“That’s what they’ve been trying to do is just wait to see what teams may be looking to add and have a good fit,” Miller said. “No one’s really making a move yet, but I would think that will change as we get closer.
“Hopefully, I get traded. I want to be in the NHL – everyone wants to be there – so we’ll see how it goes.”
The 33-year old Miller has played five games with Grand Rapids and has found himself on the fourth line and is killing penalties.
“I thought I played pretty well up there, so I just hope someone else feels the same and grabs me,” Miller said. “Nothing against the team here or the AHL. This is a good group of guys.”
On the Arizona Coyotes …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Coyotes GM John Chayka was on Arizona Sports 98.7 radio talking about trade talks and the trade deadline. When asked if any team has called him and proposed a blockbuster?
“No,” chuckled Chayka. “I think there’s always discussions on smaller trades that end up kind of building up to be bigger, but with the cap system currently in place those types of blockbusters – they’re difficult to make.
“I’ve had some discussions on bigger type of deals. But again, I think for our purposes – our team moving forward – we’re not looking to fundamentally change the course that we’re going on here. We’ve got a lot of good young players, so it’s going to take a little time and patience, but we’re not looking to move players around just to move players around.”
