NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings and Edmonton Oilers

Jimmy Howard of the Detroit Red Wings

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: The Red Wings won’t bring back goalie coach Jim Bedard, and Jeff Salajko is the leading candidate to replace Bedard. Salajko has a history with Petr Mrazek. It’s another indication that the Red Wings could be planning on trying to trade Jimmy Howard.

David Pagnotta: Howard can name 10 teams that he won’t accept a trade to.

Ansar Khan of MLive: (mailbag) The Red Wings could use someone that plays hard, aggravates and plays with an edge. Roster space is an issue for the Red Wings though. Do they consider trading Teemu Pulkkinen or Tomas Jurco? If looking internally, do they take a longer look at Eric Tangradi.

Not sure why the Hurricanes would be interested in trading Justin Faulk – who is 24-years old, an alternate captain, and has four years left on his deal at $4.8 million. The Ducks could move one of Sami Vatanen or Cam Fowler for some help up front. Andrew Shaw is a type of player the Red Wings could use.

The Red Wings should make an offer to Kyle Okposo if he hits the open market.

The Flames might be interested in Jimmy Howard.

It’s doubtful that any team drafting in the top 10 this year will be looking to trade out of it.

The Wings would be more apt to trade back a few spots and pick up an extra asset than to move up. If Mikhail Sergachev drops outside the top 10, the Red Wings could look at moving up a few spots.

On the Edmonton Oilers …

NHL.com: Teams are already calling the Oilers about the No. 4 draft pick.

“I’ve had about four or five teams call me already,” general manager Peter Chiarelli told “Oilers Now” on Monday. “I’ve made it known we would look to move down if the right deal is there.”

If the Oilers don’t trade the pick, Chiarelli said that he’s been watching Pierre-Luc Dubois and Matthew Tkachuk closely.

” is such a cerebral player and a gritty, heavy player. He’s always around the net. He would be a really good fit,” Chiarelli said. “Dubois, same thing. He’s big and strong; your prototypical power forward. He can play center or wing and can really shoot the puck.”
