On the Detroit Red Wings …
Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: Despite his struggles this season, the Detroit Red Wings will likely protect Petr Mrazek for the expansion draft. That would mean that both Jimmy Howard and Jared Coreau would be exposed for the draft.
Next season Coreau will no longer be waiver exempt, so they may look to move a goalie at some point. Howard was playing well before being injured, and if he can come back this season and play well, it would help is trade value. They could also decide to shop Mrazek.
On the New Jersey Devils …
Andrew Gross of The Record: The New Jersey Devils are holding defenseman Kyle Quincey out of the lineup tonight so he doesn’t get hurt. Teams interested in a rental defensemen could be calling the Devils. Quincey carries a $1.25 million cap hit.
“There are pros and cons on both sides but I’m having a great time here, it’s a great group of guys,” Quincey said. “Whatever happens, it’s out of my control. I’ve been through it. It’s another day. I’ve had a great year with these guys. It’s not over yet but, if it is, I’m very thankful for the opportunity with the boys here.”
P.A. Parenteau also won’t be in the lineup, but that is due to an injured hand. Parenteau also carries a $1.25 million cap hit and could be dealt by Wednesday.
Since the Devils claimed Parenteau off waivers from the Islanders, before they are allowed to trade him they must offer him to any team that put in a waiver claim without any return. At this time it’s not know if anyone else put in a waiver claim.
Forward Mike Cammalleri said today that the Devils haven’t approached him about waiving his no-trade clause. Cammalleri has two years left on his deal at $5 million per.
