Steve Kouleas: With Dave Pagnotta, Sirius XM Insider. Quinn Hughes, what’s the realism of a short, medium, and, I guess, long-term future? And are there anybody actively kicking tires right now?
NHL Rumors: There is No Rush For Quinn Hughes To Make a Decision About His Future
Dave Pagnotta: I would be very surprised to see anything involving Quinn Hughes happen mid-season at all. If anything this is going to be timing if he does end up being moved. I suspect it’s more likely to occur in the summer or closer to the draft something of that nature. I don’t get the sense the Canucks have much of an appetite do it?
Yes, teams have called. They’ve checked in just to see what the status is. But he effectively controls his fate because of where he’s at another year on his contract before he hits UFA status. I don’t think that the Canucks want to go down that path right now. Yes, there are obviously reports of other teams checking in and people trying to connect the dots with other teams. Most recently in the last week or so, it’s been Detroit.
But I just don’t see a scenario right now unless they’re completely blown out of left field and blown out of the water with a crazy offer that’s way too good to pass up, I just don’t anticipate something happening during the season.
But because of all the activities surrounding the Canucks, it’s still going to be, at the very least a little bit of a topic of discussion, because of what they’re going through right now and trying to move other assets.”
NHL Rumors: The Quinn Hughes Situation Could get Interesting Around the Olympics
NHLRumors.com Note: As previously reported throughout the summer and when the season started, there is no rush for Quinn Hughes to decide his fate in Vancouver. While President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford poured gasoline on fire with his comments about Quinn Hughes wanting to play with his brothers, the Canucks season is going to determine a lot for the eldest Hughes brother.
Not to mention, Quinn Hughes has stated he is committed to the Vancouver Canucks and that everyone would find out his decision come July 1st, 2026, when he is eligible for an extension. Everyone is linking him to the New Jersey Devils, Detroit Red Wings, and Philadelphia Flyers, but how will they want to overpay now with no guarantee of an extension in place?
Again, Quinn Hughes holds all the cards.
