On the Edmonton Oilers …
Jim Matheson: When Adam Larsson returns to the Oilers lineup they’ll have eight defensemen. thinks that they will keep eight up and send a forward to the AHL. Drake Caggiula could be the leading candidate at the moment. If the Oilers tried sending forward Nathan Walker to the AHL, the Capitals could reclaim him.
Jason Gregor: Caggiula would require waivers if they sent him to the AHL, and can’t see the Oilers wanting to lose him for nothing. Forward Anton Slepyshev doesn’t require waivers. They could also waive defenseman Eric Gryba with Andrej Sekera returning in two weeks.
On the Florida Panthers …
Jameson Olive: Coach Bob Boughner expects backup goaltender Harri Sateri to get some playing time, but adds that GM Dale Tallon is looking to acquire some goaltending help: “It’s not easy. No one’s giving those guys away for free… I have full trust in those guys and the job they’re doing.”
On the Ottawa Senators …
Josh Clipperton: Predators forward Kyle Turris on the Senators: “It’s tough because I think management did want to sign me, but I think that the owner didn’t. And that was his decision.” (Turris was traded to the Predators and immediately signed a six-year contract extension)
On the San Jose Sharks …
Curtis Pashelka of The Mercury News: The Sharks could use some help in the scoring department, but don’t expect GM Doug Wilson to give up future assets for a short-term player.
“Getting everybody back in, getting some guys back on top of their game, being healthier, I think that’s when you truly evaluate this team,” Wilson said recently. “We’re looking forward to that. If there are guys that can come in and help us and fit for now and into the future, absolutely.
“But I don’t see me trading key young core players for them.”
Wilson adds that he doesn’t see many ‘scoring’ options being made available.
