On the Edmonton Oilers …
Jason Gregor: Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli yesterday: “Part of being a GM is deciding what to fix, but also going with your gut and applying some patience.”
Jason Gregor: Chiarelli continued: “The broader picture is we have to get these players ( 91,58, 98) and let them have success. The alternative was getting players who wouldn’t fit long term (age and money). I’ve seen progress from them.”
Jason Gregor: Chiarelli adds: “I do believe this team has the ability to get out of this, but that doesn’t mean we won’t look to make some changes.”
On the Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Bob McKenzie on TSN 1050 on Penguins defenseman Ian Cole.
“Edmonton has got interest in Ian Cole,” asserted McKenzie. “And right away, the fans in Pittsburgh, they start dreaming in Technicolor. ‘Okay, great. You guys get Cole, we get Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.’
“No. that’s not happening. That’s not happening.”
On the Colorado Avalanche and Pittsburgh Penguins …
Adrian Dater of BSN Denver: The Avalanche do have some interest in Penguins defenseman Ian Cole, though it’s not known how much interest they do have. believes their interest in ‘mild.’
The 28-year old Cole is a pending unrestricted free agent and may not seem like a fit for the Avs on the surface.
He could double his current $2.1 million cap hit on his next deal. If the Avs were to trade for him, they would likely want an extension in place. Cole may not be interested in a young team like the Avalanche.
would be surprised if a Cole trade to the Avalanche happened.
