NHL Rumors: Erik Karlsson Trade Talk – Stars, Islanders and Lightning

The Dallas Stars may not want to include Miro Heiskanen in a Erik Karlsson trade, preferring Julius Honka.
On the Ottawa Senators and Erik Karlsson trade talk updates …

Chris Steveson: Source said late last night that things went quiet for the night regarding Erik Karlsson trade talk.

Shawn Simpson: “When player and agent lock into a team, it’s never the best deal. Hoping this isn’t another Sens deal that helps the player.”

B.D. Gallof: Source last night: “No trade discussions happening now because Isles aren’t a team Karlsson interested in signing with. He’s willing to go to Vegas, Dallas, and TB.” Trade talks seem to be dead unless the Islanders are able to convince Karlsson to come to the Islanders.

Chris Stevenson: The Senators were focusing on 2017 1st round pick Miro Heiskanen according to one source. The Stars would rather include 2014 1st round pick Julius Honka.

AJ Jakubec: Two sources have said the Stars were getting close on landing Karlsson as well (following up Chris Stevenson’s report). A potential trade would be centered around draft picks and prospects. Devin Shore was the roster player that had been mentioned. Bobby Ryan is not part of the trade. One source said the Stars won’t move Miro Heiskanen.

Travis Yost: Though there has been lots of talk about the Stars, but don’t rule out the Tampa Bay Lightning for Karlson. They will trade to get a deal done, but only to a certain point.

Chris Peters: “Not saying this should be used as the sole measuring stick, but interesting enough: Honka and Heiskanen both played for Finland at the Men’s World Championship this year. Both played 8 games. Heiskanen averaged 18:58 as an 18yo, Honka averaged 14:05 at age 22.

Chris Peters: “I think Honka still can reach his potential, but the upside Heiskanen possesses is significant enough where I view a pretty sizable gap between the two. If Erik Karlsson is going the other way, I’d have a hard time doing the deal without Heiskanen involved.”
