Flames looking to trade a defenseman

Ryan Pike of the Flames Nation: Bob McKenzie on his Bobcast said that the Calgary Flames are looking at trading a defenseman – either T.J. Brodie or Travis Hamonic.

“I’ve been hearing a lot that Calgary is very intent on moving a defenseman, either Travis Hamonic or TJ Brodie. Brodie and Hamonic are two names we’re hearing a lot of because the Flames have good young defensemen they feel can take over for one of those guys. And also like when I mentioned the Michael Frolik potential trade, they are trying to free up dollars to be able to sign restricted free agent Matthew Tkachuk.”

Canucks looking at the trade market and free agent updates

TSN Radio Vancouver: Jeff Patterson spoke with Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning: “Main takeaway is that Benning seems open for business on the trade front. He repeatedly mentioned talking to other managers. He talked about the draft & the week leading up to the draft & how all the managers will be back together again.”

TSN Radio Vancouver: Patterson continue: “Defence is not a position of strength for the Canucks…They can address the defence in free agency but I got a sense talking to him & the vibe he was putting out, that he knows that he’s got to make a significant trade & his trade record hasn’t been very good.”

TSN Radio Vancouver: Patterson “It hasn’t been big game hunting for Benning on the trade front & I think that he knows his job is on the line here & he has to improve this hockey club.”

TSN Radio Vancouver: “Free agency is one way to do it but I get the feeling that the Canucks will be front & centre in & around the trade activity that should happen at the draft.”

Rick Dhaliwal: The free agent interview period is three weeks away and there is still a lot of work for the Vancouver Canucks to do with UFA defenseman Alex Edler. Contract talks have slowed down of late.

Contract talks with Brock Boeser continue. There had been some talk that the sides were far apart earlier this past week but there is still lots of time to get the deal done.
