Panthers ask Hoffman for his no-trade list
Pierre LeBrun: Have heard the Florida Panthers have asked Mike Hoffman‘s camp for his list of 10-team no-trade listed.
This doesn’t mean that he will be traded, but it appears that teams are calling about him.
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Two executives have said that the Panthers are listening to Mike Hoffman trade offers.
They’ve been happy with Hoffman but may be looking to clear more salary off the books. Hoffman carries a $5.175 million cap hit.
Could the Oilers move Chiasson or Kassian
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger on TSN 1260 on if the Edmonton Oilers are getting any traction on forward Alex Chiasson or Zack Kassian, and who could get a better return.
“Yeah, I think they’ll get more for Chiasson,” indicated Dreger. “I believe that the ask is pretty high. I think it’s a second-round draft pick or a pretty decent prospect or, if you want to be creative, I suppose you could find a way to maybe add both in that package.
“But I don’t think that the Oilers have written off the idea of potentially extending Chiasson either.”
Dreger continues that they’d likely get more for Chiasson. They’d get a lot if they made Darnell Nurse available, but they aren’t doing that.
Dreger on Kassian.
“Teams like the fact that he’s not a bad skater. He obviously has that gritty element to him, and he’s going to be highly motivated as a playoff performer if given the opportunity.”
Oilers deadline primer
Mark Spector of Sportsnet: The Edmonton Oilers top needs are top-six wingers and skilled defensemen. A true number one defenseman that can move the puck and shoot. Goaltender depth may be needed as well.
Pending RFAs include Tobias Rieder, Ty Rattie, Jesse Puljujarvi, Jujhar Khaira and possibly Anthony Stolarz if he plays more than 10 games.
Pending UFAs include Alex Chiasson, Brad Malone, Alex Petrovic and Kevin Gravel.
Trade assets include Chiasson, Zack Kassian, Petrovic, Kris Russell and Brandon Manning.
A bold move for the Oilers would be trading someone like Ethan Bear for a scoring winger.
