On the Goalie Market …
Frank Seravalli: Teams looking for a starter or 1B – Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets.
Teams looking for a backup – Anaheim Ducks, Caglary Flames (Jon Gillies?), Colorado Avalanche, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins (Tristan Jarry?) and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
On Steve Mason …
Ken Wiebe: The Jets have touched base with free agent goaltender Steve Mason. Multiple teams are interested in Mason.
Bob McKenzie: Would add “significant” to the Jets interest in Steve Mason.
On Brian Elliott …
Rick Dhaliwal: Hearding that the Flyers are interested in Brian Elliott.
CSN Philly: Looking at free agent goaltender Brian Elliott.
Tom Doughtery – could fit well with the Flyers and won’t make much more than the $2.5 million he made last year. Elliott may find a bigger opportunity in Winnipeg. Think that Jonathan Bernier may be frontrunner for the Flyers.
Greg Paone – Elliott to the Flyers makes sense. Is able to the carry the workload if needed and he fits their price range. Think that Michal Neuvirth would be the No. 1 and Elliott the backup.
On the Washington Capitals …
J.J. Regan: The Capitals lost defenseman Nate Schmidt in the expansion draft. To find his replacement, trading backup goaltender Philipp Grubauer may be their best option. The goalie market is shrinking fast so they may have to move quickly.
Available free agents include Ryan Miller, Jonathan Bernier, Steve Mason and Brian Elliott.
The Capitals may have to build a trade package around Grubauer and get a deal done before the start of free agency or they may have to hold on to him a while longer.
Teams that definitely need a starting goalie include the Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets. There has been talk of the Canucks re-signing Ryan Miller. Grubauer may have more potential than Jets Connor Hellebuyck.
Teams that might need a starter include the Buffalo Sabres, Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings.
Teams that need a goalie but are unlikely trade partners are the New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers.
