On the Vegas Golden Knights …
Steve Carp: Have to think the top priority for Golden Knights GM George McPhee is to find a goalie.
Bob McKenzie: Vadim Shipachyov is not going on unconditional waivers today so that they could mutually terminate his contract. It may still happen at some point.
Bob McKenzie: Shipachyov will likely be heading back to Russia, but there are some things that have to be worked out first – including repaying pro-rated signing bonus.
Eric Engels: “Process is underway for the $2M signing bonus (-$86,000–that’s the pro-rated amount) to be returned by Shipachyov.”
On the Ottawa Senators …
Shawn Simpson: Senators GM Pierre Dorion was at the Golden Knights – Islanders game last night.
On the New York Rangers …
Bruce Garrioch: The Rangers had four people listed to attend last night’s Senators-Canadiens game: Jim Schoenfeld, Gilles Leger, Glen Sather and Doug Risebrough.
(in the comments to Garrioch’s tweet) Jon (@JMMR85) screenshot scouting list from Saturday’s Canadiens-Rangers game: Rangers (2 – Gilles Leger and Doug Risebrough), Wild, Hurricanes, Stars, Blackhawks, and Oilers.
Larry Brooks of the NY Post: The Rangers brass who attended the Senators-Canadiens game could have been there to watch Alex Galchenyuk. The Rangers are also believed to like forward Andrew Shaw.
On the Buffalo Sabres …
The Fourth Period: The Buffalo Sabres are off to a 3-7-2 start. They lack scoring depth and have had defensive issues and questionable goaltending.
GM Jason Botterill is checking out the trade marketing and listening to potential offers.
There have been reports that forward Sam Reinhart could be available. Johan Larsson and Matt Moulson could also be on the trade block.
Nothing appears to be imminent with the Sabres, but if they don’t turn things around quickly, their search will intensify.
The Sabres considered a change in net this offseason but decided on another season with Robin Lehner as their starter. He’s a pending restricted free agent.
