NHL Rumors: Trade Market, Senators, Canucks, Penguins, Capitals, and Iginla

Thomas Vanek
On the Trade Market …

David Pagnotta: The trade market for players like Michael Grabner, Patrick Maroon, and Mike Green is not overly robust at this time. The cost to acquire could drop if things don’t pick up. There is still plenty of time before the trade deadline.

On the Ottawa Senators …

Darren Dreger: There is a low chance the Senators trade Erik Karlsson at the deadline. GM Pierre Dorion isn’t shopping Karlsson, and it’s hard to blame him for listening to teams that are interested.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

Bob McKenzie: Don’t believe the Canucks were that proactive in moving defenseman Chris Tanev before his injury that will keep him out for three to four weeks. A trade could be revisited at the draft.

Rick Dhaliwal: Source on pending free agent Thomas Vanek: “Teams kicking tires on Vanek, if right deal will move him, but it’s not definite that he will be moved, could be 50-50.”

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Sam Werner: Defenseman Ian Cole has had his name in the rumor for most of the season: “The trade deadline’s always a nervous time, no matter where you are. Except maybe for Sid or Geno or somebody like that. For the rest of us, it’s always a nervous time.”

On the Washington Capitals …

Tom Gulitti: Capitals GM Brian MacLellan continues trade talks, but if they make another move it would just be for added depth.

On Jarome Iginla

Mark Divver: Jarome Iginla skated with the Providence Bruins (AHL) yesterday. It has been four months since Iginla had hip surgery. Iginla yesterday: “I’d love to still play. This is kind of the 1st step, getting out here & seeing how it is… I wanted to see if I can still go. I don’t have any deals at this point”

Pierre LeBrun: The Bruins have given Iginla permission to skate with the team. There are no strings attached. Iginla looking to see where he’s at physically before figuring out what the next step is.

Chris Johnston: To be eligible for the playoffs, Iginla would need to be signed by Monday, February 26th at 3:00 PM ET.
