Bukauskas: “Well, and to the people’s defense, you obviously see this stuff in a much different light and in much greater detail than most. I just wondered, like, is the lesson here that stuff like that maybe goes on a little more often than we think.
Because I kind of was of the same boat, where I’m like, What do you mean they’re talking about, just even the idea of, of looking at re-signing? Because this whole, where they hope to go, and you’re looking at players that, who could command good value, you think Sherwood is the guy to get something back of substance that can help Vancouver down the line.
So, you know, it’s surprising that they would look at even hanging on to him. I guess he’s a good player. He could continue to help you in Vancouver. But does that maybe go on a little more than we realize?”
Friedman: “Yes, that does happen. Kyle, there’s no question, happens.”
And one of the things I think happens there too, is that teams will go to each other, and they’ll say, ‘Hey, we’re interested in this guy. Have you talked contract with him? Yes. What did he ask for? What did he want?’
And that definitely happens. Like, I’ll tell you I didn’t agent tell me once that he had a player, and the team had shown no interest in re-signing him, and all of a sudden they called him out of nowhere and said, ‘What are you thinking?’
And he thought it was weird, and he said, Are you asking me for you, or are you asking for someone else? And the GM kind of laughed and said, ‘Both.'”
Bukauskas: “Ah. Okay.”
Friedman: “And you know, because the GM wanted to know before you enter trade discussions, is this a contract I’m going to want to sign?”

And then he could say to other teams, well, okay, I just say I offered him three years and 3 million and he wouldn’t take it. Well, the other team can say, Okay, how do I feel about that player at that number? I think that does happen out there.”
Bukauskas: “Okay. That makes, that makes a lot of sense.”
