On the Carolina Hurricanes, Calgary Flames, Arizona Coyotes, Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs …
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: Adjustments to the draft lottery odds are waiting for approval. The last place team would be at 18.5 percent.
At this point, new Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon isn’t interested in offering a $1 million for a new GM, as some have suggested to him that should. Nick Kypreos reported $400,000 with hearing in the $350,000 to $500,000 range.
Talk is that Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving is looking to add a first-round draft pick in this year’s draft. They moved their 2018 pick to the NY Islanders in the Travis Hamonic deal.
The Arizona Coyotes will likely be looking to trade Boston University senior Brandon Hickey. Hickey was acquired by the Coyotes in the Mike Smith trade with the Flames.
Providence defenseman and Edmonton Oilers draft pick Vincent Desharnais could become a free agent after next season – August, 15th 2019. Will be interested to see if they sign him or not.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have barely talked to any of their pending unrestricted free agents including winger James van Riemsdyk.
On the Calgary Flames …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 590 and was asked about the Calgary Flames and if they could be looking to adjust their core. Friedman says that it is possible, that they are looking to get back into the first round of the draft, and that it may be for a big piece.
“One of the guys I wonder about because he’s had a great year but he’s probably got some of the most value is going to be a guy like Dougie Hamilton. You know this is a league that loves defense. Calgary’s top prospects, they’ve got some really good defense prospects. I think he’s got 16 goals. I could see teams calling Calgary and saying, ‘What are you thinking about here.’
“I’m not saying they’ll do it, but I think they’ll at least be tempted to at least think about it.”
