NHL Rumors II: Krug and Smith, Molson and Subban, Ellis and Bishop
Mark Easson
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: It’s all quiet with regards to the Bruins and RFA defenseman Torey Krug and forward Reilly Smith. Both don’t have a options or leverage. Krug is probably looking at one- or two-year deal with a cap of between $1.5 and $2.5 million. After bonuses last year, Krug hit $1.7 million. Source said that Krug has been given a sizable offer from the KHL that includes a big signing bonus. Krug’s agent wouldn’t confirm or deny the KHL offer.
Jack Todd of the Ottawa Citizen: A highly placed source said that Canadiens owner Geoff Molson overruled GM Marc Bergevin when it came to P.K. Subban’s new contract. When both sides headed to arbitration and it looked like Subban would be getting a one-year deal and potentially an unhappy defenseman, Molson stepped in and made the decision on the eight-year, $72 million contract.
Josh Cooper: Appearing that the Predators and RFA defenseman Ryan Ellis are not close on a new contract (as of yesterday morning).
Joe Smith: Lightning’s Ben Bishop took shots last week, the first time since his wrist surgery. He’s hoping to be ready for training camp.
