- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Brooks says the Rangers won’t be looking to trade Rick Nash this offseason.
But I’m here to tell you that a trade is not happening. Nash has a no-move clause in his contract in force through the end of this season that management has no intention of asking him to waive and No. 61 has no intention of volunteering to forfeit.
Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane will each receive a $2 million salary with a $5 million bonus in 2020-21, the year the next lockout could happen.
Brooks thinks the Islanders should be interested in Jake Gardiner if he’s still being dangled by the Maple Leafs.
- Adam Proteau: “FWIW, after that Stamkos piece went up, a good source said he really thinks Stamkos could go to Leafs in ’16 & said it’d take a max contract.”
- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: TSN analyst Dave Reid,
“It was financially prudent not to get caught up in high dollars for Paul Stastny,” Reid said. “Are the Avs better than last year up front? Well, Nathan MacKinnon is not a rookie anymore. So, yes, they are better.”
The Avs could have traded Paul Stastny at the deadline, but they didn’t like the offers they received. They also didn’t the idea of breaking up the chemistry they had.
“We knew we couldn’t get to what he got in St. Louis,” Sakic said. “It was his right, and he’s going home. I had a pretty good idea of what was going on with Paul. I knew there was a great possibility he was going to move on.”
