On the New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues …

Mike Johnston of Sportsnet: Saturday night Headlines.

Nick Kypreos said there have been no formal offers from the New York Islanders to John Tavares, and none are expected anytime soon. Tavares is still wanting to know more about where they could be playing in the future.

Elliotte Friedman adds that he thinks the Islanders are content to let things play out. The trade deadline may not be a deadline for the Islanders. The feeling is they could hold on to him.

Kypreos says the Islanders can’t really deal with pending UFA Josh Bailey until they deal figure the Tavares situation out.

Chris Johnston said that William Nylander‘s scoring slump could help the Toronto Maple Leafs out in the long run with regards to his next contract.

Johnston said that Connor McDavid has spoken with Wayne Gretzky to discuss what is going on in Edmonton.

Nick Kypreos said that Oilers could look to move center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins if they want to shake things up.

“There was some talk of the Boston Bruins kicking tires,” Nick Kypreos said during the Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada Saturday night. “There’s also a lot of talk the Florida Panthers are looking for a top-six player.”

Nugent-Hopkins is their second-leading scorer and carries a $6 million salary cap hit.

Friedman adds that the Oilers look like a team that is waiting for something to happen. Patrick Maroon could get some interest, including from the St. Louis Blues.
