On the Detroit Red Wings, Winnipeg Jets and Jacob Trouba …

Jason Brough of Pro Hockey Talk: Despite the trade request, Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff still believes Jacob Trouba has a part of the teams future.

“We believe that Jacob is a big part of this organization,” Cheveldayoff told TSN 1290 radio today. “We drafted him. We’ve had him here for three years. We think that he’s a big part of this organization moving forward.”

It doesn’t appear that Trouba will be changing his course with regards to his trade request like Jonathan Drouin did last season.

Cheveldayoff has been holding firm in wanting fair value and a young, left-handed defensemen in return. A deal with the Red Wings would likely have to involve Danny DeKeyser and it’s not known if his name was discussed.

Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Darren Dreger was on WGR 550 radio yesterday. Dreger first notes that a deal between the Anaheim Ducks and Hampus Lindholm isn’t close, but they are inching there.

Though Jacob Trouba said it’s not about the city of Winnipeg or the Jets, it kind of feels like it is. Dreger adds

“And I know that he would love to play for the Detroit Red Wings. I get it. There are lots of other teams that he would like to play for. I believe he’d love to play for the Detroit Red Wings. But the Detroit Red Wings aren’t trading Dylan Larkin. And beyond Dylan Larkin, there’s no fit for Jacob Trouba in terms of Winnipeg’s interest in the Red Wings’ roster. So that one’s a bit more complicated.

“I think it’s less about money for Trouba, frankly, in Winnipeg, and more about going where he believes he can be the right fit on the right side of the blueline.

“I think he likes Detroit, but Detroit just doesn’t have the assets.”

Dreger had previously noted late last month that the Red Wings did make the Jets an offer this offseason.
