Holland could give pause on moving Puljujarvi
Jim Matheson: One thing to consider that may give pause to the the talk of Edmonton Oilers GM Ken Holland possibly trading Jesse Puljujarvi – when Holland was the GM with the Detroit Red Wings he took personal interest in Andreas Athanasiou who also had thought he deserved better. Holland helped get Athanasiou straightened around.
Jim Matheson: “Maybe I’m old school but Jesse sounds awfully entitled. What happened to being glad you’re playing in the best league in the world, and starting on the 3rd line vs 3rd pairing D and proving you’re better than that?”
Dustin Nielson: “I hate how Jesse has handled this situation but he did finish 5th on the team in goals per game as a 19-year old and then was basically just tossed with Lucic last year.”
The Penguins had interest Puljujarvi
Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins should look again at Edmonton Oilers RFA Jesse Puljujarvi who is looking to get out of town. The Penguins could still use another right winger.
Puljujarvi’s agent to Finnish media.
“Puljujärvi is and has been convinced that he needs a change. He is an NHL player. This is about getting an opportunity for a new start. The salary can be almost anything.”
A source has said that the Penguins did talk to the Oilers about Puljujarvi but they didn’t like what the Oilers were asking for – which is believed to be forward Bryan Rust. Hard to see the Penguins wanting to move Rust for Puljujarvi.
Would Dominik Simon or Dominik Kahun interest the Oilers?
The Penguins also need to move some salary to be able to sign RFA defenseman Marcus Pettersson. If the Penguins were to move Rust to the Oilers, it may create enough space for the Pens to re-sign Pettersson and Puljujarvi.
