31 Thoughts Rumor Roundup

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: It is believed that Dustin Byfuglien‘s ankle hasn’t healed as much as they had hoped. The Winnipeg Jets would have traded Jacob Trouba anyways, but they would have planned differently with regards to Byfuglien. There will be trade rumors involving Justin Faulk and Rasmus Ristolainen.

The Jets were interested in Ben Hutton but had to wait and the Los Angeles Kings were ready to sign him.

Trading Patrik Laine for a defenseman would be a hard trade for the Jets to win. Laine will be looking for more than $6 million on any two-three year deal.

Mitch Marner may not have been willing to do long-term on a Columbus Blue Jackets offer sheet. Some executives wonder if Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen would try to offer sheet someone else if they remain unsigned heading into the season.

Think the Minnesota Wild wanted to trade for Mitch Marner when Paul Fenton was the GM. They didn’t get far on a contract for him.

Justin Faulk’s agent Brian Bartlett.

“has not demanded a trade and does not want to be traded. He’s like any other player in the league right now, focusing on his team. Ninety-nine per cent of the time, these don’t get out into the public. Unfortunately, this one did.”

Appears that Anaheim Ducks-Carolina Hurricanes trade is dead. It’s believed that Faulk asked the Ducks for around $6.75 million per season.

Fenton was trying to sign Jared Spurgeon for eight-years at around $6.25 million AAV. Bill Guerin signed him for a $7.575 AAV.

The Vancouver Canucks have made four or five players available for trade. Jake Virtanen may not be one of them.

Faulk trying to approach things as if he won’t be traded

Tom Gulitti of NHL.com: Justin Faulk is trying to approach things as if he’ll remain with the Carolina Hurricanes all season. He won’t talk about any contract talks. Faulk on the trade rumors.

“It doesn’t matter whatever stuff is out there,” said Faulk, who was an alternate captain last season after he and center Jordan Staal were co-captains in 2017-18. “I’m not the only one who has seen it or heard it, nor are you or guys in the room. It’s not like there’s any secret. That stuff has been floating around, but I still have to do my thing and treat it as if nothing is out there and I’m still here because, realistically, I am. I’m sitting right here and going through the same thing as everyone else.”
