Senators interested in a Maple Leafs coach

Mike Johnston of Sportsnet: The Ottawa Senators have asked for permission to speak with Toronto Maple Leafs assistant coach D.J. Smith according to Elliotte Friedman.

Friedman added that Marc Crawford, Jacques Martin, and Troy Mann are other candidates who are believed to have interviewed with the team already.

Senators coach search heating up

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Marc Crawford and Troy Mann have already interviewed and more top candidates are planned. There is no timetable to name a coach.

The Senators have permission to speak with Jacque Martin and could talk with Nate Leaman of Providence.

The Senators plan to talk to five or six people before moving on to round two of interviews.

Mike Yeo and Dominque Ducharme could also be possibilities.
