NHL Rumors: Kaprizov, Red Wings and Blue Jackets

Columbus Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen was asked if he's still interested in Matt Duchene
On Kiril Kaprizov …

Aivis Kalnins: CSKA of the KHL are expected to announce a three-year contract extension for Kirill Kaprizov. Kaprizov had told the media that he was going to wait.

Aivis Kalnins: “Very strange situation with player not being able to figure out what he intends to do.”

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: Detroit Red Wings Defenseman Mike Green will be a free agent after this season, and how the team does this season will depend on if he finishes the year with the Wings or if he is moved before the trade deadline.

The Red Wings could also see if he’s interested in signing a one- or two-year contract extension with them for a salary cap hit around $4.5 million.

If the Wings are out of the playoff race and he isn’t up to signing an extension, they could trade him at the deadline for a draft pick.

On the Columbus Blue Jackets …

Craig Merz of NHL.com: It sounds like the Columbus Blue Jackets could be open to the idea of adding to their roster before the start of the season.

“The off year is still a long way from being done, so what our opening-night roster looks like at the beginning of October remains to be seen,” Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said.

The Blue Jackets showed prior interest in Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene. GM Jarmo Kekalainen was asked if they are still in on Duchene.

“If there’s a good player available that helps our team, we’ll look at it. It has to make sense for us in the long term as well as the short term. We’re not going to sell all our assets to try and get better for this year or the next little while. We have to keep our long-term options in mind.”
