NHL Rumors: Knights, Blackhawks, Sabres, Flyers, Jets, Red Wings, Sharks and Canadiens

Paul Martin is among the players the San Jose Sharks are shopping

On the Vegas Golden Knights …

Eric Engels: The agent for Vadim Shipachyov, Petr Svoboda, continues to try and find a potential trade. He’s spoken with several teams.

On the Vegas Golden Knights, Chicago Blackhawks, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, Winnipeg Jets, Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks and Montreal Canadiens …

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Jason Garrison and his $4.6 million salary cap hit cleared waivers yesterday. The Golden Knights could retain some money in a trade to get a deal done. His actual salary is only $2.5 million this season.

The Chicago Blackhawks could be looking for a defenseman with some offensive upside.

The Buffalo Sabres need to make a move to help turn things around.

The Philadelphia Flyers have been looking to improve their blueline.

The Winnipeg Jets have some extra forwards that could be made available. GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is willing to listen, but he is slow at making moves.

The Detroit Red Wings have a 78-77-25 record (heading into yesterday) under head coach Jeff Blashill. They’ve struggled recently, and there are whispers of Blashill’s future. If the Red Wings decide to make a move behind the bench, Dave Tippett could be an option.

The San Jose Sharks have been trying to trade forwards Chris Tierney and Mikkel Boedker, as well as defenseman Paul Martin. There is mild interest in Tierney. Boedker carries a $4 million cap hit through 2019-20 and will be tough to move. Martin could also be tough to move as he has two years left at $4.85 million and is currently on the IR. If the Sharks can’t make a move, some think that firing Peter DeBoer could be an option.

Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin is checking out the trade market, but he told his players last week that answers must come from within. Bergevin is making calls but is having a hard time finding the right fit. Doing nothing may not be an option. It is thought that owner Geoff Molson doesn’t want to make a change during the middle of the season.
