Nashville Predators have been able to work out a deal with Vegas to not select James Neal and Calle Jarnkrok

On the Los Angeles Kings …

John Hoven: Word is the Golden Knights are wanting a first round pick from the Kings to take Dustin Brown.

On the Ottawa Senators …

Darren Dreger: When the Maple Leafs were trying to trade Dion Phaneuf there was interest. The Red Wings were interested but only if salary was retained and his cap hit was down to $5 million. The Senators might have to do the same.

Pierre LeBrun: Hearing that the Kings, Canadiens and Oilers are on Dion Phaneuf’s trade list.

On the Nashville Predators …

Pierre LeBrun: The Predators are trying but haven’t been able to work out a deal to not select James Neal or Calle Jarnkrok with Vegas at this point.

On the Boston Bruins …

Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald: The Bruins could be looking to acquire a good, young left handed defenseman like Calvin de Haan or Jonas Brodin.

If they don’t make any trades before the trade 3:00 PM trade freeze, they are liking to go the 7-3-1 protection route.

On the Philadelphia Flyers …

Tim Panaccio: Flyers GM Ron Hextall said there has been no progress made with free agent Jordan Weal. Hasn’t ruled out bringing Steve Mason back despite Mason’s agents claims.

Dave Isaac: Guessing that the Flyers will eventually trade for a goalie.

Dave Isaac: Sounding like the Flyers are considering multiple goalie options. Maybe free agent Jonathan Bernier. order: Antti Raanta, Robin Lehner, Bernier, Calvin Pickard and Eddie Lack.

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman said on NHL Network that last year when Jonathan Drouin was holding out, the Canadiens looked at him, and they weren’t the only team.

“I think Philadelphia was a team that was pretty close to getting him, but Montreal was in the bid. And I think he’s a guy the Canadiens have had some interest in for awhile.
