Sportsnet Headlines …

Sportsnet: Not a lot of optimism with regards to the Bruins and Loui Eriksson according to Elliotte Friedman.

“The agent and the team aren’t talking, but what it sounds like is if the player wants to move back, the average annual value has to go up. There just isn’t enough common ground. Big gap. Doesn’t sound like there’s a lot of optimism.”

The Kings, Ducks, Wild, Blues, Stars and Lightning are among the teams calling the Bruins about Eriksson.

“Those same teams are probably after Mikkel Boedker as well.”

Friedman notes that the Bruins could do a Boedker trade if they lose out on Eriksson.

Friedman says that today could be Eric Staal’s last home game in Carolina. Can expect the Rangers to make a big play for him.

Despite being a pending UFA, the Rangers have told Keith Yandle that he’s not going to be traded.

Penguins goalie prospect Matt Murray is untouchable.

Damien Cox said that Devils Lee Stempniak is likely to be traded.

Cox said that Maple Leafs Jared Cowen is expected to be traded, maybe to the Blackhawks. Friedman adds that if Cowen is traded to the Blackhawks, it could be in a Bryan Bickell ‘salary deal.”

The Washington Capitals put John Carlson on the IR.

“Now with John Carlson on injured reserve, it opens up the room for them to enter the market,” explained Friedman. “They’re going to have the flexibility to do some things.”

Names in play for the Capitals could be John-Michael Liles, Dan Hamhuis and Kris Russell.
