NHL Rumors: Los Angeles Kings, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche aren't worried about a Mikko Rantanen offer sheet.
Kings interested in Nico Sturm

Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider: The Los Angeles Kings continue to have interest in NCAA free agent center Nico Sturm of Clarkson. He is getting significant interest from around the league. He’s not related Marco Sturm.

No decision for Adam Fox yet

TSN: Pierre LeBrun said it would be a big blow to the Carolina Hurricanes if they weren’t able to sign defenseman Adam Fox. Fox hasn’t made a decision on what he’s going to do.

“His team, Harvard, plays UMass on Friday in the NCAA regionals. If his team loses, his season is over. He could decide to go back to Harvard for his senior year. He could decide to sign with the Hurricanes. He could also tell the Hurricanes that he’s not signing with them forcing a potential trade. So three scenarios there. I’m told that within 48 hours of his season ending, that Adam Fox and his group will let the Hurricanes know what their intentions are.”

If Fox tells them he won’t be signing with them, the Hurricanes will trade his rights.

If Fox signs with the Hurricanes after his college season ends, they could burn a year off his deal this season.

Avs not worried about a Mikko Rantanen offer sheet

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger was on TSN 690 talking about the Colorado Avalanche. Dreger said he spoke with Avs GM Joe Sakic at the GM meetings.

“Obviously the concept of the offer sheet and whether or not Mikko Rantanen could be a target was discussed, among other things, with Sakic. He quickly pointed to the amount of cap space Colorado has and the fact that if that were ever to happen, I mean automatically they would match.”

Dreger got the sense for Sakic that the Avalanche are looking to be a player this offseason.

“So they’re headed in the right direction, there’s no question about that. Their goaltending, for the most part, was good this year. They’ve got an interesting blueline. I think that that’s an area he’d like to improve on.”
