NHL Rumors: Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Calgary Flames

Sergei Bobrovsky could be one option for the Calgary Flames, but he may not be interested in going there.

A Muzzin trade would need to include a defenseman in return

Dennis Bernstein: If the Los Angeles Kings were to trade defenseman Jake Muzzin they would need to get a defenseman back in the deal.

Penguins – who could stay and who could go

Josh Yohe of The Athletic: Pittsburgh Penguins GM Jim Rutherford may not be done making moves. Classifying players on who won’t be moved and who might be.

Untouchables – Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Phil Kessel, Patric Hornqvist, Kris Letang, Brian Dumoulin, Justin Schultz, and Matt Murray.

Almost untouchable – Jake Guentzel and Zach Aston-Reese.

Conceivable, but be careful – Olli Maatta and Jamie Oleksiak.

What would be the point – Casey DeSmith, Dominik Simon, Matt Cullen, Jack Johnson, Chad Ruhwedel, Juuso Riikola, Garrett Wilson, and Derek Grant.

Possibilities – Bryan Rust, Carl Hagelin, Riley Sheahan, and Tristan Jarry.

Keep this one in mind – Derick Brassard.

Most likely to go – Daniel Sprong

Some potential goaltending options for the Calgary Flames

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 960 and was asked if Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky could become an option for the Calgary Flames if Mike Smith continues to struggle.

“I don’t think he’s coming to Calgary,” indicated Friedman. “He has control. He has a no-move clause. I have reported that it’s believed that he’s given them a list of places that he’s willing to go, and I don’t think Calgary is on that list. That’s my guess.”

Kent Wilson of The Athletic: Looking at some goaltender trade options for the Flames.

Sergei Bobrovsky – Columbus Blue Jackets – He’s a pending free agent but they Blue Jackets are in the playoff hunt. They may want to trade him as opposed to losing for nothing. If the Blue Jackets are looking for futures, the Flames may not be willing.

Corey Crawford – Chicago Blackhawks – The 33-year old has a couple years left at $6 million. Has missed time with a concussion so there’s risk attached.

Carey Price – Montreal Canadiens – Under contract through 2026 at $10.5 million per.

Aaron Dell – San Jose Sharks – Only 49 games in the past two seasons so a small sample size. Sharks don’t really have reason to trade him, especially to a division rival.

Jusse Saros/Pekka Rinne – Nashville Predators – Both are signed through 2021 at a combined $6.5 million.
