Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune: Pending UFA defenseman Brian Campbell has serious interest in returning to the Chicago Blackhawks once free agency starts.
In order for the Blackhawks to sign him, he’d have to take a big discount due to their salary cap situation. Campbell could be open to this. Campbell lives in the area during the summer.
On the Winnipeg Jets …
Tim Campbell of the Winnipeg Free Press: Jacob Trouba‘s name has been in the rumor mill since the end of the season. Some rival executives don’t understand by the Jets would want to trade Trouba as they would need to get a good defenseman back in the deal. May not make sense, but where there is smoke, there is fire.
GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said a week ago that he isn’t trying to trade Trouba.
Pierre LeBrun: GM Cheveldayoff said that he would “certainly” match any offer sheet for defenseman Jacob Trouba.
Pierre LeBrun: GM Cheveldayoff said he’s getting calls about No. 2, but he wouldn’t consider any of the offers at this point.
Frank Seravalli: GM Cheveldayoff said they are locked in with their No. 2 pick, but won’t name him: “The fact you guys don’t know who it is is a testament to my staff”
Frank Seravalli: GM Cheveldayoff hints that the door could be open for Andrew Ladd returning to the Jets. Cheveldayoff added that he’s looking forward to the free agent interview period to talk to Ladd and others.
