NHL Rumors: Matt Duchene: Islanders, Canucks, and Senators

The Ottawa Senators are interested in Matt Duchene, but do they have the pieces to get it done?
On the New York Islanders …

Arthur Staple of Newsday: (mailbag) All it takes is one phone call to get back into it, but get the sense that the New York Islanders haven’t been aggressive in their pursuit of Matt Duchene since the draft in June. The Avs still have the same asking price, and the Islanders traded Travis Hamonic, one piece of a potential package. Don’t see the Islanders getting back into trade talks unless the Avalanche shift gears.

On Matt Duchene …

Adrian Dater: There is nothing really going on right with Matt Duchene trade talks. Doesn’t appear that anything will happen anytime soon. He’ll start the season with the Avalanche – confident that he’ll start the season with them.

Adrian Dater: The Vancouver Canucks scout who was at the Avs-Stars game is pretty much at every Avs game for the past couple years.

Darren Dreger: “The Canucks interest in Duchene was an inquiry, not unlike most teams. It didn’t go anywhere. My bad for even mentioning it last week.”

On the Ottawa Senators …

Chris Russell of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 and was asked about the Senators interest in Matt Duchene.

“I think they’re interested, I just don’t know if they have what – like, they’re not going to trade Chabot. And you know what? They shouldn’t. They really shouldn’t,” said Friedman. “I’m not sure they want to trade Ceci either.

“They’re had a lot of inquiries about Ceci over the past few years, and they’re really been – I know that Ceci’s advanced numbers aren’t that good, but I think when you have young players on D with term it’s really difficult to trade them. I know Ceci’s advanced numbers aren’t that good – I think he’s a pretty good player, and I understand Ottawa’s reticence to deal him. I wouldn’t trade Chabot if I was them.”
