Reports of Max Pacioretty asking for a trade last season and in previous years
Allan Walsh: “Max Pacioretty has stated repeatedly that he loves Montreal and wants to remain in Montreal. To this date, he’s never received any offer from Montreal. You can have 3 sources or 10 sources, how many times does Max have to state that he wants to remain in Montreal long term?”
Allan Walsh: “Obvious these “sources” are coming from the club. Max will always take the high road and repeats again, he is ready to sign an extension with Montreal TODAY. It was Montreal that traded Max to LA at the draft and it was a DONE DEAL subject to Max signing an extension with LA.”
Martin LeClerc of Radio-Canada: Three sources have said that Max Pacioretty asked to be traded several times last season. One of the three sources also said that back in 2013-14 Pacioretty asked to be traded.
If Pacioretty starts the season with the Canadiens, it will be hard to see him being their captain.
Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette: Back at the 2018 draft, Max Pacioretty nixed a trade to the Los Angeles Kings.
“The deal was done,” said a source familiar of the negotiations. “Max got a call from (general manger Marc Bergevin) telling him that he had been traded to the Kings. But the trade was conditional on Max signing a long-term deal with L.A.”
Pacioretty didn’t want to sign an extension with the Kings, a deal that would have had to come together quickly as the potential trade involving the LA Kings 20th overall pick in the first round.
At his golf tournament this past week, Pacioretty wouldn’t comment on the failed Kings trade.
Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin desire to trade Pacioretty appears to be strange given the Canadiens need for scoring and the fact that the player wants to be in Montreal.
