Wild unable to move Olofsson
Bob McKenzie: The Minnesota Wild have put defenseman Gustav Olofsson on waivers today.
Michael Russo of The Athletic: (written before being placed on waivers) Gustav Olofsson had dislocated his shoulder in their first exhibition game. He practiced on Sunday and was hoping to be cleared by doctors.
Sources are saying that the Wild have been looking at the trade market for Olofsson.
Could the Canucks look to move Sutter or Edler at some point this season?
Jason Brough of The Athletic: The Vancouver Canucks put Sam Gagner on waivers yesterday (cleared today), basically admitting that the signing was a mistake.
Brough wonders if the center Brandon Sutter and defenseman Alex Edler could be traded at some point this season.
If Adam Gaudette shows that he can play soon, and with Jay Beagle not going anywhere, would Sutter fit in next year?
There are questions if Edler would be willing to waive his no-trade clause. If he were told that they weren’t going to re-sign him, wouldn’t he at least consider the idea of playing for a contender and possibly getting a shot at the Cup this year?
The Flyers and Simmonds have held some contract talks
Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Daily News: Philadelphia Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds is entering the last year of his deal. Simmonds is saying he’s not thinking about it.
Simmonds is hoping to bounce back from a disappointing, injury-filled season.
Flyers GM Ron Hextall and Simmonds’ agent, Eustace King, have held some contract extension talks but haven’t been able to reach a deal yet.
“That’s what the agent and the GM are for, and they’ll figure something out, hopefully,” Simmonds said. “I’m not going to let this be a distraction, that’s for sure.”
Both Simmonds and Hextall have said that they want to reach a deal.
