A few Vancouver Canucks trade options for the New Jersey Devils not named Quinn Hughes

James Nichols of NJ Hockey Now: The Canucks do have a few players that could be options for the New Jersey Devils. The Devils could use some added depth.

Teddy Blueger – Center – Pending UFA with a $1.8 million cap hit. Currently out with an injury, but is back skating. May cost a mid-round pick or B-level prospect.

Derek Forbort – Defenseman – Could use some added depth on the blue line, and one who is more stay-at-home. Brett Pesce, and Johnathan Kovacevic remain out. Forbort is also currently injured. Pending UFA at $2 million.

Kiefer Sherwood – Winger – The Devils have some depth on the wing but could use someone with an edge, and Sherwood brings that. He can also score. Pending UFA with a $1.5 million cap hit.

The Montreal Canadiens search for a top-six continues, and they’ll have some big blue line decisions

Marco D’Amico of RG Media: The Montreal Canadiens added forward Alexandre Texier to their roster this week, but they’re not done in wanting to add.

“Montreal is not done, that’s for sure,” said a Western Conference source. ”They’d still like to add a centre or a top-six player to their lineup.”

The sources added there is “lots of chatter,” and the Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues are talking to everyone.

The Canadiens know they’ll have to give up a few pieces, likely including a young defenseman, if they want to land a top-six forward. They may remain patient with David Reinbacher, and not wanting to sell low on the former first round pick.

Prospect Adam Engstrom has looked good this year and earned a callup recently. A source said that scouts have been impressed with him, and they don’t know if the callup was to showcase him. They’ll have to make some blue line decisions soon.

(Now that Mike Matheson has been extended), The Canadiens will have to make some big decisions about who else they want long-term to be on that side. There are only two spots for Arber Xhekaj, Jayden Struble, Engstrom and David Reinbacher.
