On the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils …
Andrew Gross of NJ.com: With Kyle Palmieri‘s $4.65 million as a comparable for Chris Kreider, if the Rangers think that number is too high, they could at least see what his trade value is.
Devils GM Ray Shero is optimistic that he can sign RFAs Reid Boucher and Reece Scarlett in the next couple weeks.
On the New York Rangers …
Andrew Gross of NJ.com: The Rangers recently signed J.T. Miller to a two-year deal worth $5.5 million, which will leave him one year away from unrestricted free agency. He may have wanted a longer termed deal, but knows that it could still happen in a year.
“I just think from an organization standpoint and from a numbers standpoint, we all kind of agreed it made more sense. I could re-sign in a year and extend so it’s not like a big deal. (Longer) would have been nice at the same time I’m very happy with what we came to. I’m looking forward to another opportunity.”
On the New York Islanders …
Brian Compton of NHL.com: NY Islanders new co-majority owner Jon Ledecky wants to make the Islanders an organization that every player would want to be a part of.
“We should be the world-class destination for free agents,” Ledecky said. “You think about a world, everybody can spend to the cap, and we certainly have no constraints on our GM and our staff to spend. We want to create and continue to progress towards John Tavares lifting that Stanley Cup, so we should be world-class in everything we do.”
Ledecky and co-owner Scott Malkin have already shown faith in GM Garth Snow. There had been hope from some people that the Islanders could move back to the Nassau Coliseum.
“Barclays Center is our home,” Ledecky said. “There’s all sorts of things out there about playing games . The NHL has pretty a strict rule that they set the schedule, not us. We have to make Barclays the new home of the Islanders and make it the best experience. That does mean making sure the fans don’t have an excuse not to come.”
