Ryan’s camp and the Senators looking for another team

Ken Warren of the Ottawa Sun: Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion and Bobby Ryan‘s agent are exploring opportunities to try and find Ryan a new home.

Given his contract – a $7.25 million salary cap hit for the next two seasons – it is highly unlikely that they are going to be able to find a team unless the Senators are willing to retain a lot of salary.

DeAngelo and Strome pricing themselves out of New York?

Larry Brooks of the NY Post: If New York Rangers defenseman Anthony DeAngelo and forward Ryan Strome continue to put of points, they could price themselves out of town next season. Both are salary arbitration-eligible.

DeAngelo is on a 60 point pace and if looking for a two-year deal, he could be in the $4 to $4.5 million per season range.

If Strome holds steady he could be in the 60 point range and looking at $4.5 to $5 million on a one-year deal.

Oilers potential trade targets

Allan Mitchell of The Athletic: Edmonton Oilers center Riley Sheahan suffered an injury Wednesday. The Oilers could have used another center before the injury, so the need to find may increase even more.

The Oilers will likely be looking, if haven’t been already, to make a hockey trade. One with a similar salary cap hit and on an expiring deal or is under control at a reasonable number.

Potential trade candidates for the Oilers could include:

Jean-Gabriel Pageau – Ottawa Senators – Pending UFA with a $3.1 million salary cap hit and the Senators could retain salary. Would the Senators have any interest in Sam Gagner (pending UFA at $3.15 million) or Alex Chiasson ($2.15 million through next year). Oilers would need a sweetener.

Mathieu Perreault – Winnipeg Jets – A $4.125 million cap hit for two more years. Once their blue line is healthy, the Oilers could shop Kris Russell or Matt Benning. Jets would need to retain salary in a Perreault-Benning deal. Would Russell waive his NMC for the Jets?

Jack Roslovic – Winnipeg Jets – Pending RFA but the Oilers would need to send a similar young player back.

Mark Jankowski – Calgary Flames – An unlikely trade partner.

Nic Petan – Toronto Maple Leafs – Price would be cheap and could use an opportunity.
