Flyers goaltending

Chris Johnston of Sportsnet: The Philadelphia Flyers looking for an experienced goalie to help mentor Carter Hart makes sense.

Nick Kypreos reported that the Flyers have checked in on LA Kings Jonathan Quick. Quick’s cap his $5.8 million for the next four years but in the final three years his salary drops to $3.5 million, $3 million and then $2.5 million.

Other goaltenders that could become available include Scott Darling, Cory Schneider, Keith Kinkaid, Jimmy Howard, and Sergei Bobrovsky.

Potential blue line targets for the Maple Leafs

Luke Fox of Sportsnet: The Toronto Maple Leafs have the salary cap space to improve their blue line at the trade deadline if they want.

A rental would be cheaper to acquire than someone like Chris Tanev or Brett Pesce. GM Kyle Dubas has said he hasn’t really been enticed by the potential rental market.

Potential targets for the Maple Leafs.

Alex Edler – Vancouver Canucks – Has a no-trade clause. He could accept a trade and re-sign with the Canucks in the offseason. A left-handed defenseman though.

Jay Bouwmeester – St. Louis Blues – Has been a healthy scratch and his game isn’t what it once was. Has played under Leafs coach Mike Babcock with Team Canada which means something.

Niklas Kronwall – Detroit Red Wings – Babcock has said they don’t have enough “heavy” players. Has played under Babcock and brings an edge. Has a 10-team trade list.

Nick Jensen – Detroit Red Wings – Right-handed, 28-years old and can kill penalties. Red Wings may not be interested in moving him.

Ben Lovejoy – New Jersey Devils – Veteran who can eat minutes. Doesn’t provide much offense but the Leafs have plenty in that area already.

Marc Methot – Dallas Stars – The Maple Leafs had interest in Methot when the Golden Knights selected him in the expansion draft, but he may not have been interested in them. Would he can his mind of the Stars are out of the playoff race?
