Matvei Michkov gets backing from GM

TSN: Philadelphia Flyers forward Matvei Michkov has struggled in his sophomore season, seeing his numbers and tice time drop. Head coach Rick Tocchet suggested Michkov wasn’t in good enough shape when he arrived to training camp. Michkov did get backing from GM Daniel Briere that he isn’t going anywhere.

“One thing I can tell you is Michkov is not going anywhere, let’s make that clear,” Briere told reporters on Tuesday. “He’s going to be here for a long time. He’s going to be a good player here for the Flyers, and what he’s going through right now is part of the learning process.”

Michkov has admitted that he didn’t arrive in camp in the best of shape, as he spent more time resting and recovering from an ankle injury. Briere reiterated that Michkov and Tocchet have a good relationship and that it’s a learning experience for Michkov.

NHL Rumors: Nashville Predators Taking Calls on Big Players

Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff: A Philadelphia Flyers team source said Monday morning that the situation with Matvei Michkov hasn’t been great for both sides. Not being ready physically for the start of the season has kept Michkov behind. The condensed schedule and limited training time haven’t allowed him to catch up.

Also, don’t think that his usage this season has helped his game either. He hasn’t been lined up at his natural position, and being paired with Sean Couturier hasn’t helped offensively. Tocchet does have a history of tough love with some of his young players.

Don’t expect the Philadelphia Flyers to be busy at the trade deadline … They will need to address goaltending at point

Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff: Philadelphia Flyers GM Daniel Briere was on 97.5 The Fanatic radio and said they aren’t in a position to be trading assets for rental players, and he’s not expected to be busy.

After talking with a source, believe the Flyers will be looking at the goaltender market this offseason. Pending RFA Samuel Ersson continues to struggle. Pending RFA Aleksei Kolosov isn’t NHL-ready yet.

Believe the Flyers should target Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Dennis Hildeby. The Flyers like him. Don’t know if the Leafs would move him or if the Flyers would pursue him.

The Flyers have three pending UFAs in Nicolas Deslauriers, Carl Grundstrom and Noah Juulsen, and they likely won’t bring much of a return.

NHL Rumors: The Toronto Maple Leafs and Bobby McMann

The Flyers are still open to moving defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, though with another year at $5.1 million, there doesn’t seem to be much interest. He’s battle injuries for the past two years.
