On the Philadelphia Flyers …
Dave Isaac of the Philadelphia Inquirer: (mailbag) If the Flyers look to acquire a goaltender because of Brian Elliott‘s injury status, they could look at Toronto’s Calvin Pickard. Pickard is fourth on the Leafs depth chart, he only carries a $1 million cap hit, and he does have some NHL experience.
Elliotte Friedman has reported the Flyers and Sabres have scouted each other recently. Can’t see the Flyers wanting to give up a lot, so that might rule out Robin Lehner. The Sabres have Chad Johnson and Linus Ullmark.
The Flyers could look to add a depth defenseman. Doubtful they’d want to give up the assets for Mike Green, and then there is his salary cap hit. Doubtful they’d be interested in Cody Franson.
If looking to add depth up front, Michael Grabner would be a great fit. If the Rangers want a first-round pick for Grabner, that is likely too much for Hextall.
On the San Jose Sharks …
Paul Gackle of The Mercury News: Looking a few players that have been linked to the Sharks ahead of the NHL trade deadline.
Rick Nash – The Sharks aren’t looking to trade for another declining forward. The Sharks will always be tied to a big-name player that might be available.
Max Pacioretty – The idea seems a little farfetched. His family is from San Jose, and his grandparents still live in the area. The Sharks are not going to give up a first- and a second-round pick, as well as a prospect and roster player to get him.
Evander Kane – The Sharks are not going give up the big asking price for the pending free agent, nevermind the reputation Kane brings.
Max Domi – Though unlikely, it fits more of what GM Doug Wilson may be looking to do. They would have to give up a young asset or two, but they would be getting a young player back.
Mark Letestu – The Sharks have been looking for a fourth-line center. They might be able to acquire him for a draft pick or a mid-level prospect.
