NHL Rumors: Predators, Leafs, Hurricanes, Blue Jackets, Flyers and Jets

The Winnipeg Jets thought they were close on Wayne Simmonds.
Predators and Maple Leafs called on Ferland … Extension talks after the season

Pierre LeBrun: Despite the increased interest in Carolina Hurricanes forward Micheal Ferland on deadline day, they obviously held on to him. Was told that the Nashville Predators and Toronto Maple Leafs were among the teams that called the Hurricanes with interest in the last hour leading up to the deadline.

Michael Smith: Hurricanes GM Don Waddell said that they’ll hold contract extension talks with Ferland after the season.

Michael Smith: Waddell on the trade deadline: “We believe in this team, and that’s why we stuck with them.”

Blue Jackets didn’t ask about Lundqvist

Larry Brooks: Was told that the report of the Columbus Blue Jackets asking about New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was not accurate.

On if any deadline trades fell through

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 650 was asked if there any trades that may have fallen through on deadline day.

Friedman notes the Minnesota Wild-Calgary Flames deal for Jason Zucker that the sides were discussing. Not a 100 percent sure what happened but may have run out of time. (a few more details here)

Wayne Simmonds – I think Winnipeg thought they had Wayne Simmonds. They were preparing it and Wayne Simmonds had to waive his no-trade to go to Winnipeg, and it never happened. And instead he ended up in Nashville, and he didn’t have to waive his no-trade to go there. Philadelphia could deal him without any issue there, and he ended up in Nashville and did not end up in Winnipeg. I’m not trying to say that Wayne Simmonds rejected a trade to the Jets, because I think he would have done it, it’s just at the end of the day it never had to happen because the Flyers chose to send him to the Predators instead.”

Vancouver Canucks Alex Edler drew some interest. The Flames asked at one point, and the Pittsburgh Penguins inquired earlier in the year.
