Robert Thomas is not getting traded this offseason

Andy Strickland: The St. Louis Blues are not looking to trade center Robert Thomas this offseason. Can end the trade rumors as he’s expected to be at the Blues training camp in September.

The Winnipeg Jets have been talking to Shane Doan

Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe of The Winnipeg Free Press: The Winnipeg Jets are talking to Shane Doan about a position within management. They are still exploring the idea, but there is a mutual interest.

It’s been 15 seasons with Kevin Cheveldayoff as GM and Larry Simmons and Craig Heisinger as AGMs. Doan had been with the Maple Leafs for the past three seasons, but mutually parted ways after they hired John Chayka as GM. He did talk to the Canucks before they brought in Ryan Johnson and the Sedin’s.

Newly named Nashville Predators GM on trade protection

Alex Daugherty: Nashville Predators named a new GM this week, and Chris MacFarland was asked about trade protection and how do deal with it if they want to move someone.

** NHLRumors.com transcription

Daugherty: “Players with trade protection, what’s your kind of strategy on either handing out that trade protection, dealing with it when you have a dissatisfied player, that kind of thing?

MacFarland: “Yeah, we had a, we have a lot of guys in Colorado that had, whether it’s a no-trade or a no move clause. I think it’s just it’s part of the CBA. It’s when a player gets to, as you guys know, when he gets to be that age, that it becomes part of the negotiation strategy from the players and the agents.

And I think you know, for obvious reasons, if they’re committing to you, they want to know. They have families, they’re human beings first and foremost, before they are players, and it just becomes part of it.

I, you know, I think when there’s only one way, if a player is unhappy or it’s not working for reason A, B, or C, it’s honesty. It’s transparency. You have to be honest with players, you have to, you know, be yourself. The players are smart, they see through, you know, see right through, you know, what I call nonsense, or if you’re being, you know, you’re not being true to yourself, type of thing

NHL Rumors: Nashville Predators and Colorado Avalanche

And they’re not always easy situations, but, but, yeah, there’s.. I don’t think the no-trade protection, or the no-move protection, is, you know, unique to Colorado or Nashville, that’s for sure.
